Something Old, Something New…

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue…

Ugh,  no I’m not talking about getting married; I’m talking about making a fabulous casual outfit. Incorporate all of the following four items to make a incredible casual outfit.

Something Old:
The thing is yes, you do need to go through your closet and get rid of the clothes that make you look like a frumpy old woman. But that doesn’t mean you should get rid of everything just because it might not be in this season. It’s like white pants they went out and then a year later they came back. The same thing happened with pointy heals and kitten boots. So if you look awesome in it, hold off on throwing it out. Stay organized, so that when you go shopping, you can think oh, “I have a scarf that would look great with that.”

Something New:
Usually you can look in any fashion magazine and see examples of the latest trends. I love Allure Magazine. Often times, you already own most of the pieces to rock the current trend. When you go shopping look for a few simple items that can transform your old wardrobe into the new current trends. For example you already own the skinny jeans, cork wedges and blazer, now you just need a cute Chiffon top and a wide leather belt.

Something Borrowed:
It is important for Recession Divas to unite. My girlfriends and I have shared a wardrobe for years and when my old roomie Liz and I parted ways, we joked about how it was more difficult to get ready in the morning without easy access to each others clothes. My friend Brandy also is a shopaholic and any girl would be envious of her closet. Whenever I come over she is always like, “Oh yeah I have four pairs of those here borrow these leggings, or wear this belt. It’s awesome so if you are on a budget share with the girls in your life. Just remember there are a few rules. 1) You break it or loose it, you buy it and 2) Always return your items clean and in a timely manner. This way you can keep borrowing each others goodies and save yourself a bundle.

Something Blue:
It doesn’t matter if you are going to the club, a date, coffee with a girlfriend or a weekend retreat, bring your jeans. Jeans are an essential part of the casual outfit. If you are broke, then look into stores like Nordstrom Rack, Marshals or TJ Max to get a great pair of jeans at an affordable price. Do not give up on getting a few awesome pairs of jeans that look great on you. It does not matter if you “think” you are too thick for skinny jeans. You have to wear jeans that are in style. You do not want to look like the people in the late 90′s who still wore their tight acid washed jeans and looked like Kevin Bacon in Footloose. That’s not cool.

Keep these rules in mind, while creating fun casual outfits and you will look like a celebrity without paying the Couture prices!

Good luck and may creativity be with you!

While I agree with 90% of the above, there is one falsehood. Some people are too thick for skinny jeans. It’s just a fact that not all bodies look good in painted on denim. However, there are many different styles of jeans available and with dedication anyone can find a great pair for a great price!
BTW – I just love your articles!
